5-mile out-and-back Option

1. Start at the Sunrise Valley Elementary School parking lot
2. Right onto the W&OD Trail for 2.5 miles [Water may be found along the trail by the Clark's Crossing's parking lot ]
3. Continue along W&OD Trail to the Vienna train depot [Water fountain at the eastern end of the depot building]
4. Continue along the W&OD toward Washington for another mile, reversing course at the second large power pole on the left beyond the 11-mile marker
5. Reverse course and return along the W&OD to the start, stopping at the Vienna train depot for water [Water here]

East-West Dual 2.5-mile out-and-back Option

1. Start at the Sunrise Valley Elementary School parking lot
2. Right onto the W&OD Trail toward Vienna (east) for 2.5 miles, to the "stretching post" (shaped like a cross) at the far end of the parking lot just beyond the 13.5-mile marker [Water may be found nearby at Clark's Crossing]
3. Reverse course and return to the start [Water/Gatorade here]
4. Return to the W&OD and head west (toward Herndon), to the bridge over Town Center Pkwy, the first overpass beyond the 18-mile marker
