1. Leave the parking lot by running east (away from Reston Parkway) on the path along the south border of the commuter parking lot.
2. Follow path into the woods turning right at first "T" intersection.
3. Right at second trail intersection (shortly after crossing wooden bridge), crossing Steeplechase Drive (via the steps or the large under-road culverts).
4. Continue east on the trail (Glade Trail) as it crosses to the north (left) side of the stream bed.
5. Right at the next trail intersection, crossing to the south (right) side of the stream bed  Continue across Soapstone Drive.
6. Left at the second trail intersection beyond Soapstone, crossing again to the north side of the stream bed.
7. Trail emerges onto Twin Branches Road where it intersects with Glade Drive.
8. Follow Twin Branches across the Lake Audubon dam, up the hill to South Lakes Drive.
9. Right on South Lakes.
10. Right onto the path behind the retirement community (Thoreau Place) to Sunrise Valley Drive at the tennis courts.
11. Right on Sunrise Valley to intersection with W&OD Trail [Water stop located here].
12. Left on the W&OD  Right on Wiehle Avenue.
13. Left on first intersection with North Shore Drive.
14. Left on Temporary Road [A second water stop may be located here, hot weather only].
15. Left on Temporary to Reston Parkway.
16. Right on the path along the east side of Reston Parkway.
17. Left through the underpass beneath Reston Parkway.
18. Left on path along the west side of Reston Parkway.
19. Follow Reston Parkway south for about 2 miles, shifting to running along the shoulder on the east side of the parkway sometime between Glade Drive and Fox Mill Road intersections.
20. Left into the commuter parking lot to finish.

Notes: In very hot weather, this course may be run in the reverse direction  so that the unshaded portion of the course is covered before the sun is high.
