Start  in the center of Washington Plaza after walking from the parking area (ample parking is available across Baron Cameron Avenue at Brown's Chapel and Lake Newport Tennis, and limited parking is available in Lake Anne Village Center parking lot and along North Shore Drive during the festival)
2. South  from Washington Plaza toward Heron House (the highrise along the shore of Lake Anne) for one block
3. Continue  along shore of Lake Anne for one block
4. Right  on path intersection after crossing ("Van Gogh") bridge for one block
5. Continue  under North Shore Drive at underpass for about 100 yards into Hickory Cluster's common wooded area
6. Right  at second path intersection after underpass for about 1/2 mile, bearing right at 2 path intersections
7. Left  at 3rd path intersection and continue under North Shore Drive again after 50 yards, then continue on path for another 50 yards
8. Right  on concrete path up short, steep hill near "Van Gogh" bridge for 100 feet
9. Left  on street (Waterview Cluster) for about 100 yards
10. Continue  on path at bottom of hill for 200 feet through Waterview Cluster marina
11. Right  at end of marina on path for 200 yards
12. Continue  through underpass under Fairway Drive
13. Right  after underpass to circle uphill onto concrete sidewalk along Fairway Drive for about 100 yards
14. Right  on asphalt path through Fairway Apartments for about 100 yards
15. Left  on path toward the golf course for about 200 yards
16. Left  on path at country club and circle to right uphill around club house for 50 yards
17. Bear left  at "Y" in path, passing to the left of small gazebo at top of short hill
18. Bear right  just after starting downhill on Reston Association path (signed as such)
19. Continue  on path across golf course for about 200 yards downhill and then uphill
20. Left  on first path into townhouse neighborhood (Golf Course Island (GCI) Cluster)
21. Continue  through GCI Cluster for about 200 yards staying to the left through several turns in the main sidewalk
22. Left  on sidewalk along Links Drive for about 100 feet [Water stop at corner of Wedge Drive and Links Drive (very hot days only)]
23. Left  on Wedge Drive (first street to left after GCI Cluster, through detached house area) for about 1/3 mile
24. Left  on sidewalk along North Shore Drive for about 150 feet
25. Left  on path along Wiehle Avenue for about 1/2 mile across Lake Anne dam
26. Left  on first street after crossing dam (Inlet Court) for about 200 feet
27. Continue  on path at end of street for about 50 yards downhill
28. Bear Right  on path near bottom of hill into woods for about 1/4 mile
29. Continue  through underpass under North Shore Drive
30. Bear Left  after underpass on path for about 200 yards
31. Continue  through underpass under Baron Cameron Avenue
32. Left  on path after underpass for about 200 yards
33. Right  on path along Village Road for about 200 feet
34. Right  on  path across Lake Newport dam for about 150 yards
35. Left  on path on first left after dam for about 100 yards
36. Right  on street at end of path for about 200 feet (Waterfront Road)
37. Left  on path, continuing around lake for about 1/2 mile, crossing 2 streets (Greenwich Point Road and Lake Newport Road)
38. Bear Left  at last of 3 coves on Lake Newport along shore of lake to Lake Newport Tennis parking lot for 100 yards
39. Continue  on path down Village Road for about 500 feet
40. Cross  Baron Cameron Avenue on crosswalk
41. Continue  through Lake Anne Village Center parking lot to Start

This course needs to be marked with arrows in flour because it is used only once a year and has so many turns.
