1. Start by running toward the north end of the parking lot (toward Fellowship House), picking up the downhill path to the Hunter Woods trail system
2. Follow the trail to the left and under Colts Neck Rd. and Reston Parkway.
3. At the Pinecrest Recreation Center, leave the path and turn left on Pinecrest Rd.
4. Turn right on Glade Drive (next intersection)
5. Follow Glade Drive to "T" intersection, turning left onto Sunrise Valley Drive
6. Left on Fairfax County Parkway (the next intersection) [Hot weather water stop may be located here]
7. Continue on Fairfax County Parkway (south) crossing Fox Mill Rd and continuing another 1/4 mile or so to the sound-wall-sheltered neighborhood cul de sac
8. Make a "U" turn in the cul de sac and retrace steps back to the intersection with Sunrise Valley Drive, passing the water stop
9. Continue north on the FC Parkway, crossing the ramps to and from the Dulles Toll Road and Sunset Hills Road, to the W&OD Trail
10. For those wanting to run 18 miles: After running under the W&OD and up the long ramp to the W&OD trail itself,   turn right (west) and run to about 0.1 mi. beyond mile-post 22.5 (just beyond Sterling Blvd.) and back to this point and continue with the directions for the 10-mile runners in the step below, stopping for water at Herndon Town Center (just beyond mile-post 20) and at the Herndon Golf Course (near mile-post 21). [On hot days, water & Gatorade may be located near the old rail car (caboose) just west of Herndon Town Center]
11. For those wanting to run only 10 miles, turn left (east) from the ramp leading up to the W&OD Trail, passing under Reston Parkway and crossing Old Reston Avenue [Cold weather water stop may be located here], to the Trail's intersection with Wiehle Avenue   [Hot weather water stop may be located here]
12. Right on Wiehle, crossing Sunset Hills Road and the Dulles Toll Road again
13. Right on Sunrise Valley Drive
14. Left on Soapstone Drive, crossing South Lakes, to Glade Drive
15. Right on Glade
16. Right into service road at gasoline station just before intersection with Colts Neck Road
17. Continue into the HWVC parking lot to finish
