Directions
- Start at the west school entrance (to the left of the school building [as you face it])
- Cross Lake Newport Road and enter the trail to the right of the childcare center, continuing on main trail for about 1/2 mile
- Right on Bennington Woods Road, continuing for about 200 yards
- Left on trail at intersection where Walnut Branch Road comes in on the right side, continuing uphill for about 1/4 mile
- Left on path along Reston Parkway, continuing for about 1/2 mile to 2nd signal
- Right at Lake Newport Road for 1 block [alternative start]
- Left on North Village Road, continuing for over 1/2 mile, crossing Center Harbor Road and continuing for about 200 yards beyond the picnic pavilion [alternative start][Water stop at pavilion (very hot days only)]
- Right on trail just before North Hills Pool, continuing under Wiehle Avenue bridge over the trail
- Bear Right just after going under the bridge
- Bear Right again in about 150 yards to stay on main trail, continuing for about 1/4 mile uphill to the cul de sac (Center Harbor Road)
- Right on Center Harbor Road, continuing for almost a mile, crossing Wiehle Avenue at the signal
- Left on North Village Road, continuing for about 1/4 mile
- Right on Lake Newport Road
- Cross Reston Parkway at the signal and continue for almost a mile to the finish at the school on the right.
Notes
This course is identical with the Lake Newport Pool course except for starting location. Because it avoids any crossing of the very busy Fairfax County Parkway, it is a much safer alternative to the original Armstrong ES course. But, use caution at the two Reston Parkway crossings!
